Sometimes a clean slate is necessary when operating your computer. Restoring your Dell Latitude D630 to factory settings is not at all a process which requires the assistance of a professional or a lengthy tutorial session. The process is fairly straightforward and the steps to follow require no prior experience with computer factory setting restoration. With no special tools except the option of a drive to back up your current information, you can restore your Dell Latitude D630 to factory settings with little trouble.
Back up your data for the Dell Latitude D630 laptop before proceeding. Making a restoration back to factory settings will wipe your computer clean, so you will want this backup for the future. Use a CD, zip disk, or USB flash drive to make this data back up before beginning.
Begin the recovery management process. Click on the 'Start' button within Windows and type 'System Restore' into the search box. Hit 'Enter'. This will find the computer restoration utility for you and you can launch it from here.
Select the 'Restore' option when the 'Recovery Management' window opens. Choose the 'Restore System to Factory Default' tab on your Dell Latitude D630, then hit 'Start' at the 'Confirm Restoration' window.
Enter a password when prompted if your Dell Latitude D630 was originally password protected. If not, simply click 'OK' to bypass this step and move on.
Wait as Windows restarts itself. A 'Restore from Factory Default' box will appear. Hit 'Next.'
Click 'OK' when the next notice appears on your Dell Latitude D630. This will create the hard-drive partition for your new installation. Select 'OK' when the 'Finished' dialogue box appears. Wait for the computer to restart again. The restart this time should take a bit longer than normal, so do not be perturbed.
Wait for the 'Set Up Windows' dialogue window to appear once your Dell Latitude D630 finishes restarting. Click 'Next', accept the license terms and input the computer username and other personal information as you deem fit.

You will need: a bootable iBoot CD/DVD, a retail DVD of OSX Snow Leopard and the latest Multibeast for Snow Leopard (3.10.1) on flash drive. You will also need a wireless network.
*Warning* -Before you do anything, start your D620, press F2 at the Dell logo to enter the bios, go to Performance and disable multi-core support. If you don't do this you ARE going to screw your install. The Dell D620 is NOT a Core2duo but a Core Duo. The Core2duo is a 64bit processor and thus OSX sees and supports its multi-core- the CoreDuo is only a 32bit Processor and is NOT supported by OSX in multi-core mode.
Place iBoot in the machines drive and restart- the machine will boot into iBoot and give you a choice between your hard drive (usually shown as 'Windows' and iBoot.
Do not select anything at this point.
Eject the iBoot disk, place the Snow Leopard retail DVD in the drive and Press F5. The drive will spin up and the option to select the Snow Leopard Install DVD will appear.
Select 'Snow Leopard install DVD'- the DVD will now load, the white Apple start up screen will appear (with the Apple logo in the centre) and the working gear will spin around underneath. This will take about 5 minutes.
When done, the 'select your language' menu will appear. Select your language and continue.
Do not install Snow Leopard at this point when prompted. Open Disk Utility and click on the erase tab. Select the hard drive and choose Mac OS Extended (Journaled). Name your drive anything you want. Click erase and when finished, close the program and continue with the installation.
If you wish to monitor the progress of the installation you will need to babysit the machine as if left alon,e the sleep function will kick in and turn the LCD screen off. If this happens, you cannot wake it and will not know the installation is finished until OSX reboots. One trick I used was to plug in an optical mouse, then sit the optical mouse on top of another (live) optical mouse so that the laser's align- this will keep the pointer moving and trick the machine into staying awake.
OSX will reboot the machine once the install is finished- on restart, press F2 at the Dell logo, open the DVD drive, remove the Snow Leopard install DVD and replace the iBoot disk. Reboot the machine and when at the iBoot menu select your hard drive and press enter.
Fill out, follow and enter all the usual stuff required by Apple until you reach the desktop- this includes your wireless network key.
Now click the Apple logo at the top right of your task bar, choose software update. OSX will check for new software. When prompted, update and install.
When the OSX update has downloaded and installed, do NOT restart. Plug in your flash drive with multibeast, navigate to multibeast and open the program.
*Follow these instructions carefully or you will cause a KP (Kernel panic)*
Select Continue>Continue>Continue>Agree>Continue
Now select the following..
Select - Easybeast,
Select - System Utilities (this will select sub categories 'Rebuild Caches and Repair Permissions)
Open 'Drivers and Bootloaders> Kexts & Enablers> Audio> Universal'- select - VoodooHDA 0.2.1
Open 'Drivers and Bootloaders> Kexts & Enablers> Miscellaneous' - select - PS/2 Keyboard/Mice and Trackpads
Click 'Continue'- then click 'Install'
Once installed restart
You should now have a fully functioning Snow Leopard version 10.6.8 however, if your D620 battery is good, you will need to install the AppleACPIBatteryManager.kext for the battery monitor and icon to function. To do this, I used the AppleACPIBatteryManager.kext found in the extensions folder from the D630 10.6.3 pack (do not install the pack itself or you will cause a KP on boot).
To install the kext, copy the kext to the desktop, go to Applications and open Kext Helper b7, once open, drag and drop the kext into the program, enter your password and install. Then run the program Kext Utility from Applications, then restart.
10.6.8 should see your graphics chip as a GeForce Go 7300 64Mb @ 1280 x 800. This is normal. If Front Row opens and works, you have full graphics acceleration enabled.
I think I've remembered everything but feel free to ask if you get stuck. Beware that OSX will be running in 32bit mode and will not allow installation of any 64bit software on the D620. Also- download and install the latest iTunes as the included iTunes will be out of date and rejected by the iTunes server.
Happy trails.
Cam.
P.S- big thanks to Tonymac and the team!
