I have a Gateway DX4860 computer and I tried to update it to Windows 10 last week and was told that I needed additional drivers installed that were not on my computer. I call Gateways service and was told that you were still working on the drivers and that I would have to wait? The Expert answered my Mac question and was patient. One look at the refurbished Gateway DX4860-UB20P Desktop Computer and the answer is a resounding Yes, you can. I was in chat with MS today and I have INTEL drivers for my display graphics. There WAS an update for them, this week, that I just installed today.
I was able to install (Snow Leopard) Mac OS 10.6.3 on my new desktop without a problem, from the retail DVD. I installed the combo update (10.6.8) and I restart the machine after running the multi beast installation, then it goes to the apple loading screen, and then the display cuts out. After the initial Apple loading screen.
I also attempted to install Lion using Unibeast (Erasing the Snow Leopard install via disk utility). The installation process is complete, and the user is prompted to restart. When restarting, the normal apple load screen comes up (a background with the apple) but then nothing comes up but a blank apple background along with the mouse cursor which can be moved around the screen.
The HD was repartitioned each time we went to reinstall either system. We tried reinstalling either system multiple times to no avail. The regular (Snow Leopard) Mac OS 10.6.3 loads and installs fine and boots up using iBoot, but we cannot seem to get the system to recognize the drivers:
1) installing the drivers using multi beast for 10.6.3
2) upgrading to 10.6.8
Niether seem to work

Monitor: 32' Samsung TV (used via HDMI hookup)
RAM: 8GB DDR3 Memory (removed 4G for installation)
1 TB Hard Drive
Optical: DVD-Super Multi drive
Video: Intel HD Graphics
Lan: Integrated LAN 10/100/1000; Wireless LAN
BIOS: P02-A2

Hi there, first I have to say thanks, this forum and tonymacx86 site rocks1This is my first Hackintosh and the information has been very helpful with many issues I have encountered.
Im glad to report that my first post is a 'Success Post'. Don't get me wrong. Not that my first hackintoshing experience was a walk in the park… I encountered many issues, which I resolved reading and searching online, specifically on tonymac's website and forum.
First of all here are my specs:
Intel Dual core i7
Sandy Bridge
8 Gigs of memory
Nvidia GT520 Graphic card
Mac OS X Mountain Lion 10.8.2
1Terabyte Hard drive (Windows)
500gb Toshiba Canvio USB External Hard Drive (Mountain Lion)
I managed to install mountain lion on my external usb hard drive using Unibeast. My main hard drive is using windows, so I used the external usb one for mac.
At first, after successful installation I could only boot with my Easybeast USB in safe mode using the -x flag. I tried some Nvidia enablers from multi beast with no luck. I then searched online and found on some drivers specifically for my model which is the GT 520. And that did the trick. I booted using the usb but without the safe mode.
So then I played a little with some of the settings on multibeast, installed easybeast, which should install chimera boot loader. Well, when I was trying to boot of the external drive (mac installation) I would get the 'boot0: error'
I have seen that this may be caused by a 4k hard drive. In my case, I have no idea if my toshiba canvio usb external drive is 4k. I searched the web for this info but I had come up empty. Anyways, I tried some solutions.
I have installed chimera standalone, i tried the solution mentioned on tony macs boot0 error official guide, with no results.
I unmounted my mac hard drive (the usb external drive), went to terminal and typed:
dd if=/Volumes/MLionOSx/usr/standalone/i386/boot1h of=/dev/disk13s2
In my case, my mac installation is on disk13 partition 2. And my Unibeast Install Usb was named MLionOSx
Still with this, I had no luck. I would still get the error when trying to boot from my external usb hard drive.
I then had the idea of cloning my mac installation to a partition on my internal hard drive (the one using windows), just to check if the external usb hard drive had something to do with it. I figured the external drive was not going to be able to boot on its own. So I did cloned it using Carbon Copy Cloner. After cloning, I reinstalled the chimera boot loader this time targeting the new partition on my internal hard drive (my recently cloned mac installation). And this did the trick!
Now my computer booted with no problems!
So to be sure, I removed my external usb and trying booting without it, but I got the boot0: error again. So I just plugged it in again, and I just left it alone there connected. Now my new mackintosh boots mac and windows without trouble (as long as the hard drive is plugged in). Even though I cloned the installation, the main partition (the mac installation) active is the first one, being the external drive one. So now, since I had cloned and installed chimera to a partition on the main hard drive I can boot from this hard disk but use the mac external usb drive installation as default.
I guess if I had installed easy beast or chimera boot loader targeting the c: drive, or the partition without cloning maybe it could have worked. But for now I just left it alone… What do you guys think?
Should I leave it like that and keep on using my mac installed on the external drive? or should I try and install on a partition on the main drive?
And finally my dual display wasn't working with my HDMI cable, so I went and bought a HDMI to DVI adapter and now works just fine. The only thing here is that I cannot get any audio from de HDMI. In windows I play a video and it works, I see and listen to the audio, but I haven't been able fix this issue on mac.
